About:China Tourist Visa

Do I still need to get an invitation letter of is my hotel reservation information enough?

I would like to just go for a short holiday in China. I have no relatives or friends there.

Kevin, according to the rule, you need to get an invitation letter. It should be issued by tourism bureau. Peronal ones are not accepted, according to Chinese embassy. In this way, you'd better join a group tour arranged by qualified travel agencies. They can help you solve your visa matter.
