how long should i plan on spending at the research base?

Hello, I'm trying to figure out a good time to go the panda research base. Since I'm traveling during the national holiday I want to go right when it opens and I was wondering how long I should plan on spending there?? Is it a tour or do I pay an entrance fee and then just walk around on my own, sort of like a zoo?Thanks!

Yes, it is sort of like a zoo, you can pay the entrance fee and tour inside on your own. A half day is suggested to spend there and I suggest you reach the base earlier, for 8:00-9:00am is their most active time for breakfast.
