i have to stay in kunming for only 26 hrs 5 mins (including check-in time).

On my return ticket from India to Taiwan, landing time in Kunming is 0510 (local) and the next day flight time is 0715 (local). So if I exclude the check-in time, the stay time can be reduced to 23 hours. Is it possible to stay with Direct Visa? I am Indian.

Yes, I think so. Actually, the 24-hour period usually starts from 00:00 of the next day after your arrival. However, it's advised to confirm this with Kunming Immigration Inspection in advance. The number is 0086-871-96566.
