In which airport will you transfer? Is you next flight a international one or a domestic one? If you have a interline ticket, then normally you don't need to collect and recheck in your luggage and 2.5hr could be enough.

Terence, you did not mention what airport are you going to use. In any case, if you use larger airports like Beijing (both), Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Shenzhen or similar, if your flight is on time, your layover time will be more than enough because you will not be a subject of immigration and/or customs control, but you will just pass a short security check. You do not need to fill out anything and you do not need to announce anything to anybody. In reality, you will just walk from the exit of your arrival plane to the departure gate of your onward flight. Don't worry, you will manage to catch your connecting flight without any stress :)
