Train travel from mainland to Hainan island.

I would like to ask the passenger procedure while it is ferrying to Hainan (either Haikou or Sanya). Do the passengers have to leave the coches before the it is taken aboard or they could stay in their seats without leaving the coches all the way from mainland to island?
