L or S2 visa

Hi, I am visiting a relative in china for one week next month. I'm confused about need for L or S2 type. It is difficult for us to prove we are related as we are brothers but our birth certificates have different surnames as he has a different father. it seems impossible to prove we are related. So we may as well not say we are related. But, our surnames are the same now. So will the issuer insist that we are related and want to see proof?

Edward, as you only want to visit for one week, it's not necessary to apply for the S2 type. The L type will be OK for this trip. To apply for it, you just need to get an invitation letter from your brother and you don't have to provide proofs about your relationship.

are you sure? The guidance says I will need a "certificate of kinship". We don't have any evidence of kinship

Edward, if you apply for L type, kinship certificate isn't required.

You can just write in the letter that you are friends or distant relatives so the proof of kinship is not required.
