About:China Visa Application in UK

Can I apply for my Chinese visa before paying for my ticket. I don't want to lose my money in case

If you can get an invitation letter from an individual or entity in China, then you don't need to submit the ticket copies for the application. Otherwise, you have to book round way tickets before submitting the application.
