About:China Private Visit Visa

Traveling to China to visit future in-laws.. again next year live in China with Wife for 1-2 years.

Hello,
If you can please give me some advice, my situation is as follows. This coming international New Years I am planning to travel to PRC to visit my Fiance in Chongqing and meet her parents and family. I will be staying for 3 weeks.

September of next year my Fiance and I will be getting married in Canada while she is on a Tourist visa. She will return to China and I will go with her, hopefully at the same time, and we will live in China while her Canadian permanent residence application processes.

I am wondering what type of entry permit I can apply for, would I need two separate ones? A tourist type for visit number 1? But how about the second visit which would most likely be a 1 year stay or more in China? How long will I be able to stay in China on an entry permit?
Please help, Thank you.

Luigi, yes, you need to apply for two separate entry permits. The first one should be a tourist L type. You can stay in China with it for at least 90 days. The second one should be a Q1 type if you plan to stay for a long time. Generally speaking, you can get a temporary residence permit with the Q1 type. The duration of your stay is determined by the residence permit, usually for one year or so.

Thank you for the reply.
I have another question, will I be able to work on a Q1 or will I have to apply for a work permit? Is it advisable that I do that after I enter China on a Q1, say, if I look for a job teaching English? Or if I decide to apply for a work permit before entering china, what are the chances of obtaining said work permit without any job offerings?

Thank you,
Luigi

Luigi, you can't work on a Q1 type. It's better to apply for a work permit before entering and then get the Z type outside China. You have to find an employer first and then the employer can apply the work permit for you.
