getting to summer palace from dongcheng district, beijing

I am staying at the Swissotel BJ (Dongsi Shitao subway station) and would like to go to the Summer Palace using public transportation. I know subway 4 s you very close to the gate but I am wondering if there is a way to return to BJ without having to retrace my steps back to the subway station?

No, you still need to walk east around 450 yards to arrive at Beigongmen Station first. Then subway line 4 and transfer to subway line 2 to return back to Dongsi Shitiao Station, Exit C. After that, walk northeast around 570 yards to find your hotel.
