With a half day, I suggest you go to the Yuyuan Garden, which is a typical of Chinese classic architecture. After that, if you still have some moments, you can go to the nearby Old City God Temple Street, where you can taste the local foods.
Or you can go to te Bund, one of the must sees. If time permits, you can also have a stroll in the nearby Nanjing Road.
