About:Adopt Chinese Children

Obtaing a Birth certifcate for a child adopted in China

Our 4 yr old was left at as a newborn near a police station in Wuhan with no papers other than a handwritten note from the parent stating she was born on a certain date. She was then placed in an orphanage.

Consequently she has no official Birth certificate which will present her a number of ignominious complications for us/her whenever completion of official paperwork requires a birth certificate.

Is there a process whereby the Chinese government can issue some sort of official birth certificate?

Eugene, I found an article on the internet, in which it says that adopters can apply new birth certificates for their adopted Chinese kids. However, it doesn't explain how to do. I think you might contact the orphanage and agency who helped you go through the adoption process and ask if they know about this.

I did scour the internet but there wasn't much of relevance to Canada.

I may as you said have to go back to the orphanage and ask if they can help.

In the USA as soon as the plane lands the child is a US Citizen. Later we need to file for the BC from our state. Just an FYI.
