About:China Visa Application Procedure and Fee

I am going to Hong Kong and want to go to guangzhou or Shenzhen

would I need a visa to shop for the day

Yes, you need it. If you only go to Shenzhen, you can apply for it upon arrival at Shenzhen. The VOA is good for five days.
