invitation letter for a self tourist visa

How do i obtain an invitation letter equivalent since I am traveling along, applying for a tourist visa to Chengdu from 10/4 - 10/10? I am a us citizen.

Well, it's not necessary for you to show the Invitation Letter in this case. It is fine that you just show your round-trip flight ticket and hotel booking confirmation.
