Visa for my son??

I was born in Hong Kong and have a Hong Kong ID card, HKSAR passport and a current Home Return Permit

My son, aged ten, was born in the UK and only has a British Passport

My question is, if I take him on a visit to China will I have to apply for a separate tourist visa for him or will he be covered by my home return permit?

Thanks for any help
