From Jinan to Beijing, you can take high-speed train from Main Railway Station or West Railway Station, and arrive at Beijing South Railway Station first. The duration is no more than 2 hours on the way. Then take a taxi or hire a private car to get to the scenic area.
Jinan has several scenic areas that win high popularity among local people and tourists. You can go to Baotu Spring Park, Daming Lake Park and Thousand-Buddha Mountain.
About shopping, as I know, Quancheng Road, Daguan Yuan, Renmin Shangchang and the South Gate areas are the four big commercial areas. There are many stores that have meaningful souvenirs. You can go and see. Embroidery, Flour Sculpture, Wooden-Fish Stone and Black Pottery are local specialties.
