trans manchurian travel

We are arriving by train doing the Trans manchurian route starting in St Petersburg. We are going to book the individual sections when we arrive, so not sure of the exact date of arrival into China. Is it enough to record that along with the flight out of China? Or does that mean we need a letter of invitation? Thanks!

Thank you for your reply. I can provide details of the flight out and some accommodation bookings. But we are going to book the train in when we are over there, as we are not sure of the exact itinerary. Do you think that is enough?

I think you can book a flight to Russia and state that you want to enter via Russia by train. So that the train ticket may not be required.
