Changbaishan South Slope

Hi TCG,

I am interested in the South Slope section. There are not many info online. Could you please help me out with my queries below?

1. What is the best way to get there from North or West slope?
2. What is the name of the nearest town? Any accommodations nearby?
3. Is there a railway station nearby?
4. After visiting South slope, I would like to proceed to Dandong. What is the best mode of transport?

Thanx
Bella

First of all, the latest news showed that the South Slope doesn't accept DIY tourists. You can join a tour and the agency would make an appointment for the visit. Anyway, here is my advice below:
1. It is best to hire a car to South Slope either from the west or north slope.
2. The closest town is Changbai County, 60-70km away. I know there is a hotel named Yalujiang Yuantou Hotel near the south slope scenic area. It is much more convenient than going to the county.
3. Rent a car back to Changbai County. Take a long-distance bus to Baishan City. Upon arrival, transfer to another bus to Dandong. The buses are limited each day, so it may take long.

Thanx Nana.

Looks like we will need to hire a driver from west or north slope.

I have a few more questions on the transportation between Changbaishan to Dandong.
1. How far is West slope to Baishan City long distance bus station (in terms of km and hours)?
2. How long is the journey from Baishan City to Dandong by bus? Do you know the bus departure time and travel cost?
3. Besides bus, how do I get to Dandong by train? If available, what are departure time and travel cost?

2. As I know, there is only one schedule at 07:00. The duration is about 8 hours. The ticket fare is CNY 95 per person.

3. Yes, you can take the train at Baishan Railway Station, get off at Dandong Railway Station. It departs at 23:59. And it takes around 12.5 hours on the way. The ticket fare of soft sleeper is about CNY 250 and hard sleeper is about CNY 165.

We had drivers that were arranged beforehand. We took a train to Changchou from Beijing, then went to the area near the mountain the next day and stayed at the Hot Springs Hotel for one night. The next day we returned very late to Changchou after going to the Heavenly Lake. There was quite a wait at the mountain to proceed and our group was helped by a local to get through.
