Yun, your son has got the US passport, right? If so, he needs to apply for a Chinese entry permit with the US passport. When applying for it, his Chinese passport should be submitted to the consular office.

For children born abroad, they can get the PRC Travel Document before 12 years old. The Document is valid for two years. However, your son was born in China, so he cannot apply for the travel document.

Leo, Thanks for your answer and for letting me know the Chinese entry permit. When applying the Chinese entry permit, does he have to do it in person at a Chinese Consulate or just mail the application?

Actually, because we do not know what the best option is, we have not applied a US passport for him. Is it easier for him to hold a Chinese passport with his green card when entering? Also, how old is he when he can enter Chinese with a US passport and a Chinese visa, not a Chinese entry permit. Thanks again.

Hi, Yun. The mailed application is not acceptable. Your son should go to the consular office in person or ask someone to do it for you.

Is your son a naturalized US citizen? If yes, you have to get a US passport and PRC entry permit for it. If he is still a Chinese citizen, he can enter with China passport alone. By the way, the entry permit here is exactly the same as a visa.
