How my child can stay in China legally?

Hello guys, my wife and I are Ghanaian Citizens. We have just got a new born baby in China. The baby has been issued a birth certificate in China. what should we do first to ensure the baby living legally in China. Do we need to take the baby to a local police station for temporary registration?
Then also if we apply passport for the baby, it will take three months before we can get it. In this case, do we have any specified duration we must apply a visa for the new born baby or we can apply it for the baby at any time.
thanks

Mitzh, you should apply a visa for the baby at the exit and entry administration by providing the birth certificate, parents' passports, and parents' PRC entry permits. Then get a passport for the baby. There is no specified duration for you to apply the visa after the child was born, but you had better do it as soon as possible.
