About:Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka

Do I have to obtain a Transit visa? Where should I go to for it?

I am a Sri Lankan passport holder due to fly to Canada via Hong Kong by Cathey Pacific from Colombo by next week.

I heard someone say Sri Lankan passports do not need the transit permit for Hong Kong if they take the plane of Cathy Pacific before. You can check this with the airline or HK Immigration Department. If it's not true, then you need to get the transit permit from the Chinese embassy in your country or directly from the HK Immigration Office.

I think its better if you skip Cathay Pacific if you have a Sri Lankan passport. Some may go through but some may not. I tried to fly from US to Singapore via Hong Kong on United Airlines, but I was not issued boarding passes at JFK, saying that I need a transit visa in HK.
