z visa for my husband

I am teaching here in hebei province and my school got a work permit for me with my husbands name as accompanying family member. Now i dont know if this is for my husband to use to apply for a z type or s1 type. The school said they cancelled my foreign expert certificate and applied for a new work permit for me. Now they wanted me to get a new z type and my husband s1 type. But my residence permit is still valid until feb 2016 why would i get a new z type If my husband needs my residence permit copy to get his visa???? Im soooo confused i hope someone could help me because my school can not give me any answer. Thanks in advance.

Antonia, your husband should get an S1 type because he is the accompanying family member for you. However, if he needs to work in China, he has to get a Z type. When your husband applies for his S1 type, a photocopy of your residence permit is required. As far as I see, after your get the new work permit, you don't need to apply for another Z type. What you should do is to renew your residence permit at the local exit and entry adminsitration bureau.
