About:Beijing Capital Airport T2

MEL-PEK-IKT-PEK-MEL

Hi!
I'm a passport holder of Peru, permanent resident of Australia.

I'll fly from Melbourne and arrive at Terminal 3 (Air China), then change to Terminal 2 (Hainan Airlines) to take my flight to Russia (final destination). I'll be in China for four hours. My way back is pretty similar: Arrive at T2 from Russia, then change to T3 and wait for 7 hours to take my flight from China to Australia.

I'd to ask: Do I need a transit visa? I've read about the 24-hour TWOV, however I'm not sure if this also applies when you need to change terminals/claim baggage/check-in with the second airline. I guess I'll need to leave the transit area to change terminals. Am I correct?

Thank you very much!

You don't need a transit visa because your layovers are within 24 hours.
About transfer the flight, the correct procedures are the following.
Step 1:Transfer Procedures
Step 2:Border Inspection
Step 3:Security Check
Step 4:Custom Inspection
So it's not necessary for you to reclaim your baggage. You have to accomplish the mentioned steps and then you can wait the next flight.

Hi Asheley, thank you for your response. Just to clarify that I'm flying with two different airlines and will need to check in with the second one, that's why I mentioned about the baggage claim. My bags won't be transferred automatically onto the PEK-RUSSIA flight.

Under that scenario, will I be able to claim my bags and then check in for the second flight without going through immigrations?

Thanks!

Oh, I understand. You can call your airlines and see whether they have luggage check-through service or not. If yes, you don't need to claim your bags. :-)
