72-hour Visa-free Transit in Shanghai

Hi,
I am an italian with M type in China. I will leave the next 31st of july to philippines. Due to the fact that i will come back to italy defenetely after vacation in the Philippines i have to stop to Shanghai in order to take all my luggage. Do i need apply for an entry permit? How can i do?

My girlfriend went to the consultate in Milano and they told her that she has to do the double entry one and that the free 72hours is not possible.
There are no problems for her, she will collect my luggage with the double entry one in shanghai but how can i do? i have just a single entry, do you think that i can stay in the airport and wait for the other plane for milano?
Thanks
Marco

Hi Marco, I don't know why the consulate told your gf the free 72 hour transit is impossible, but I think you can make use of it on your way back to Italy. You need to book a flight ticket from the Philippines to Italy via Shanghai, so that you can stay for 72 hours at Shanghai without the need to apply for an entry permit. Remember to tell the airline that you want to use this policy before your flight arrives.

Thank you so much for the answer. The problem is that i have already booked the flights because i was sure about the 72hours transit.

I flight from manila to shanghai with Cebu airlines, i arrive in shanghai, i have a stop of 24,25 hours in which i will go to pick up my luggages and then the other flight an Ethiad one to milano. Since i have not stop but two different tickets is it sure that i can have the 72hours transit?
Thank you so much!
Marco

Even though you are holding separate tickets, you are still eligible for the 72-hour free transit.

thank you so much, but what i have to say at the check in in Manila airport? On the Cebu website the airline says that they are not responsible for travel documents and also transit documents, and they have the right to not check me in. Is possible that there is no regulation on this 72 hours transit visa?

Marco, it's true that there are still some airlines that are not aware of 72 hours free transit policy. Some travelers finally board the plane because they take some official announcement from Chinese embassy that they can do this. However, some other people are still refused to board even they provide the related policy. The airlines doesn't want you to board because they don't want to take a risk. If you were refused to enter China, then they are responsible for taking you back.

If your airline still insists that you can't do this, I personally think you should apply one in advance to avoid the trouble that you can't board the plane.
