About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Can Indian Passport holder with US F1-visa use the 72-hr free transit waiver?

I hold an Indian passport and valid US F1 type. I will be flying from Los Angeles (USA) to New Delhi (India) and have a 15-hr layover in Shanghai.

Ritika, it's a pity that you cannot make use of the 72-hour free transit policy, but it doesn't matter, you still don't need the transit permit because you are eligible for the 24-hour direct transit policy.

Thank You Kelly. Can I leave the airport for sight-seeing in the nearly 10 hrs that I am in Shanghai through the Direct Transit permit?

Yes, you can do it. Apply for a temporary stay permit at the airport then you can leave and have some sight-seeing activities.
