About:China Private Visit Visa

To convert from L type to S1 type

I am foreigner holding a permanent residence permit and work in Shanghai.
My spouse is granted a L visa with validity of 90 days.
1) Could the L type be converted to S1 type after entering China?
2) Could he apply for a Spouse Residence Permit when in China?
Please advise. Thank you.

Sean, it's possible to convert the L type into an S1 type in China, but not 100% for sure. In case that your husband can get the S1 type, he can apply for the spouse residence permit.

We have our marriage certificate legalized at China Consulate in our country. Must the legalized marriage certificate be translated into Chinese language for use in PRC for subsequent residence permit application?
