About:Chinese Temporary Residence Permit

Is it possible to obtain a residence permit if I don't go for work or education purposes?

My father is from China but emigrated to Colombia almost 35 years ago. Is it possible or more certain for me, my brother and my mother (whose parents are also chinese) to get a residence permit without necessarily going to PRC for work or education purposes? We don't really have a plan on what to do when getting back, whatever comes up; we just want to come back. Would having other visas help with this process, for instance USA tourist type? I've already been to PRC on tourist type once to visit some family.

Hi David! Your mother's parents are residing in China at present, right? If so, you can apply for the family reunion Q1 type to stay in China for a long time not for work or education purposes. I'm not sure whether having the entry permits for other countries will help with the process, but having previous PRC touist type may help to get the Q1 type.

Hi Greg, thanks for replying! Actually no, they don't live there anymore either. My only family members still living in China are my aunt's family but they live in Macau, not mainland. But is it possible to apply for a permit not for family reunion either?

Then you have no choice but to apply for the work Z type or student X type.

Me and my brother are over 18 years old, are we still considered as valid family member for the Q1 type?

Liu, you still can apply for the Q1. Your birth certificate is required.
