About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do we need a visa to go ashore to visit Shanghai?

We have Australian Passports and are on a cruise round Japan . On 1st November we stop in Shanghai harbour at 6 am and leave at 10 pm for Okinawa/

Bernie, what is your last stop before entering Shanghai? If it's not part of mainland China, then you can make use of the 24-hour free transit policy, so that the transit entry permit is not needed.
