Travel document renewal

My child is currently in China but her travel document will expire in 1 month before she comes back to the US. Do we need to renew her travel document in China? If so, where can I find the process to renew it?

Amy, you don't need to renew your travel document. Just apply for a exit pass at the local exit and entry administration. After you get to the US, apply for a new travel document at the embassy.
