The staircase runs straight from my front door to the ground floor

Babu, according to Fengshui theory, you should equip a screen near to the front door to prevent the air go into the ground floor directly. If it is not applicable in your house, then you need to hang thick curtains on your front door and the large window. To some extent, the curtain can prevent your wealth go away easily.

Just a small clarification, yes i have a thick curtain on the windows as i enter into the house but the curtains are kept open to keep the place airy and for circulation so it it fine to to keep the window and curtains open ? also hanging a curtain in front of the door (main ) doesn't it obstruct the good energy from coming in ? these are questions asked out of ignorance so do not mistake me. I also have a windchime of 6 bamboo tubes at the end of the window ( on the top of the south east corner )
Are there any other fengshui cures for staircase facing door? Many thanks again for replies

Suresh, it's ok to open the window for air circulation. However, you don't always open the curtain and window, right? If so, there is no need to equip the curtain. Equiping a curtain on the main door won't obstruct the good energy. Good energy still enters as the wind blows.

If you always open your curtains and window, all good energy goes away at last. You can open them time to time for air circulation. But its no good to open them all the time.

Thanks again Betty, I will do it, I have also asked about the Bamboo fengshui windchime in the south east just near the top of the window, appreciate if you could through light on that as well as i have a large mirror (on the north wall) facing the dining table and metal objects on the north wall. Let me know any other fenshui cures you could suggest. since many opportunities seem to be missing.

For a wood wind chime, you should hang it in the east or south of your house; a metal one is suggested to put up in the north. Moreover, you should know that it is suggested not to hand the wind chime in your balcony or bathroom according to Fengshui.
