Well, you can take subway line 6 at Dongsi Station, get off at Chaoyangmen Station. Then transfer to line 2 to Dongzhimen Station. After arriving, take bus no.867 to get to Mutianyu Great Wall directly. The schedules are 07:00 and 08:00. But this bus only operates from March 15 to November 15 every year. Or you can take bus no. 916 Kuai at Dongzhimen Station, get off at North Huairou Avenue. The bus schedules are from 05:50 to 19:50. Then you can easily get a private car to get to the destination. Remember to negotiate a price before you get into the car.

Thank you for this! We got there safely and managed to negotiate a good price for the mini van.  Just took twice as long to get back with the same bus after he dropped us right at the station though.
