About:China Visa Exemption

Transit at CAN airport only

I am holding Malaysia passport and transiting at the airport for 4 hours from KUL - CAN - LAX. Am I correct that I do not need a visa since I will only be at the transit area at the airport.

Yes, you are right. You needn't apply for any type because you enjoy 24 hours free transit.
