About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

can I leave the airport to see the town (great wall of china) without having issues in customs?

Ill be traveling to thailand this fall and both of my going and departing flights have 8 hr layovers in beijing.

Yes, during your layover periond, you can go and see the section of Great Wall in Beijing.
