Longest duration visa to live with my Chinese girlfriend

Hi, I'm currently in China and have a 6 month double entry (30 days per entry) tourist type and have just had that extended for another 30 days at the Guangzhou Entry & Exit Bureau.

My girlfriend is Chinese and lives in GZ. I will be going back to Australia on the 24th of June and coming back to GZ on the 8th of July.

I want to move back to live with my girlfriend for at least 2 years. My plan is to study Chinese part time (15-20 hours a week with one on one sessions), and then potentially work in the second year. I have $15,000 Australian Dollars for which to fund my travels and would have my girlfriend complete the inviation letter (would she state her self as girlfriend in the relationship section?).

What else do I need to include with my application as evidence and what strategy would you suggest for achieving my goals e.g. which visa(s) should I apply for?

Thank you.

Jaime, I suggest you first contact a school which is willing to admit you. Then apply for an X type in your country. After your study ends, you can try to convert the X type into a Z type at the Entry & Exit Bureau. If it cannot be converted, you have to apply for a Z type outside China. Only after you get the Z type, can you work legally in China. In addition, no matter what type (Z or X)you are applying for, the invitation letter from your girlfriend is not needed and you don't need to prove your relationship.

Hi Bonnie, thanks so much for your answer. I'm not expecting to get one through my studies as I was planning to just to get a local tutor to give me online lessons rather than through an organised institution.

With that in mind should I be looking at some form of tourist type? Like a 1 year multiple entry with a 90 day per visit? Is there anything else I should consider?

Obviously once I'm lookin to work I would need to get the work type and you mentioned I would need to leave the country in most cases to complete this.

Living in Guangzhou would Hong Kong still be an option to do this as I've heard this may be changing?

Many thanks.

Jaime, if you do not plan to study at shcool or take part in a job, then you can apply for the tourist L type. It's possible that you can get the on-year mutiple entry with 90 days for each visit. Alternatively, you can marry your friend and apply for the Q1 type, which allows you to stay longer.

Nowadays, applying the work Z type from Hong Kong is not easy if you don't have HK residence status. You may need to go back to your home country or other nearby countries to do the application.
