I disagree with Nancy, I am a british national who has recently emigrated to China. Initially i applied for the 6 month multiple entry one you are eyeing up. this requires sufficient paperwork from the chinese end (an invitation letter from friend with full residency, proof of his residency, a copy of his passport, a copy of my passport, a copy of the housing contract where i would be staying.) After all this i was simply denied the 6 month multiple entry one. When i enquired in London about said entry permit, i was told the Counselor general said no, that was it. they sent me back a 30 day double entry tourist L type. since then i have switched to a M business type which was equally as tough to get and required me to leave mainland (i went to hong kong). Even when applying for a M business type, i was denied what i requested and again given 30 day mulitple entry. (I applied for 180 day multiple entry). This no longer exists since the government strongly reformed their entry exit policy for foreigners in 2013. Do not under estimate the process, it is very tiring. Do not expect any help from ANY chinese embassy, they simply don't care. Give yourself enough time and cross your fingers, you might just get a 30 day double entry.
