Will I be able to leave the airport and explore the city? Are there any restrictions?

Hi,
I am traveling from the U.S. To Shanghai with a connection in Beijing both ways. My first connection is only a few hours, however my connection on the way back to the U.S. is over 10 hours.

Erika, if your transit is less than 24 hours, then you are able to make use of 24 hours free transit. However, you are required to apply for the stay permit when you arrive at the first airport. With this permit, you can exit the airport with no restrictions.
