Chinese entry permit info

Hello,

I am a British Citizen and I would like to know that can I obtain chinese tourist type or business type in other countries rather than UK. I have already travelled to China many times and the last time visa was issued for me was 6 months M multi entry type. The reason I ask is that I want to travel to china but before travelling I want to visit more countries and apply for Chinese entry permit there. During my China visits I will be travelling to Hong Kong many times. Please also let me know that do I need the invitation letter again for my supporting documents in order to apply for Chinese entry permit.
