Criminal convictions - do I need a visa?

Hi I want to travel to Hong Kong for a holiday with my fiancé. I have criminal convictions (from over 16 years ago) and spent time in jail for them.
Do I need to apply for an entry permit? It is hard to get an answer from the consulate and I am confused. I don't want to get there, and then get sent home.
I have a New Zealand passport.

Paul, as you are a New Zealander, you don't need the entry permit if you only stay for no more than 90 days. To ensure that you can enter, you had better check this with the HK Immigration Department before your travel. Tel.: (852) 2824 6111
