About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

If I fly from Taipei to Shanghai back to Taipei, do I qualify for the 72 hour transit visa?

I'm an American citizen living in Taiwan.

Wally, I'm afraid you do not qualify for the 72h transit permit waiver policy. If you want to use this service, you cannot fly from one place to mainland China and then back to this place. This route is not considered as a valid transit.
