Family Long term residence to work permit?

Hello-
I have been married to my Chinese husband for 8 years and I have been teaching in China for 11. Last year I decided to take a break from working to help my daughter in First grade so I had my work permit changed to a long term family permit (2 years). We own a house and everything. I was wondering if it's possible to change back to work permit without leaving the country? It kind of makes me angry when they ask you for a home of residence but won't let you actually stay China. My daughter was born here and I have no family living in the US so going back is really hard.

Is there any way that I can get around it?

Rei, I personally think you meet the requirements for getting a Chinese "Green Card", with which you can stay and work there permanently. Therefore, I think you should try apply for the permanent residence at the local exit and entry administration so that you are saved from the trouble of changing Q type to Z type residence permits.

Hi Fisher,
Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure about the Chinese Green Card- the last time I heard about those you would have to invest like millions to apply. Has it changed in the last few years? And you wouldn't happen to know where I could get more information? All I seem to find are forums like this.

Rei, what you said is another method for getting the green card, that is, investment migration. For you, you married a Chinese man for eight years and has lived in China for more than 10 years. What's more, you have a house here. So I think all the requirements are fuifilled. You are likely to get a green card by the identity of spouse. If you want to find out more information, just go to the local Exit and Entry Administration to learn about more details.
