About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Direct transit practical questions

In June I shall be returning from Sydney to London via Guangzhou in Business Class on China Southern, with a night at a hotel in transit between the evening arrival and departure the next morning. I am unsure on three points:

1) Do I need to apply for permission/visa to stay under 24 hours, and if so, do I apply at Guangzhou airport or at check-in at Sydney?
2) Is there any way to know what hotel I will be staying in?
3) Do I need to collect luggage on arrival and check luggage in again the next morning?

Many thanks for any help or advice!
Hugh

Hi Hugh!

1. You need to apply for the free transit facility. Before your flight arrives at Guangzhou, tell the airline attendants and they will inform this to the airport immigration office. Then you just need to fill in some forms at the airport.

2. You can book hotel online in advance. There are various hotels of different classes for your choice.

3. If you are using the same airline, it’s possible that you don’t need to collect your luggage. If not, you may need to collect and check your luggage. You can confirm this with your airline.

Thanks David! That was very helpful.

One little question further: to book the hotel online, does the airline (China Southern) send a link or does one go direct to the hotel's website?

Cheers!

You can either go direct to the hotel's website or find a link on the home page of the airline.
