Z type visa to China

Thanks Grace for your reply to the Z type that would assist me to convert to temporary residence permit. However, I would like to clarify the 'hunt for job in China' section - meaning I should get a job there while I am residing in Singapore?

I should not go over PRC and look for a job? (not recommended?)

Thank you!

If you don't have an employer in China, nobody will get the work permit for you, and without it you cannot get the Z type. So it's suggested that you get a job while you are in Singarpore.

You can also apply for a toursit type (L) entry permit at present and enter PRC with this L type. Then hunt for a job during the allowed stay duration. Next, you can try to change the L type into a Z type. If your attempt turns out in vein, you have to leave and apply for a Z type outside. This method is more troublesome because you'll actually go through the application process twice and it's likely that you have to enter and exit, which may incur more expenses.
