About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

72 hours transit with flight tickets from different airlines

Hi, I'm a Finland citizen and flying Madrid-Frankfurt-Shanghai with Air China. I'll stay in Shanghai for 2 days and then fly from Shanghai to Taiwan with another airline. Can I apply for the 72 hours free transit even if my flights are not with the same company? I called the airline and they told me I can not apply because the connection flight is not on the same ticket so I'm a bit confused.

Also, can I apply for the 72 hours free transit at the Shanghai airport presenting my passport and connection flight ticket or is it the airline who should make the declaration?

Maria, I heard that flight tickets from different airlines are acceptable for using the 72-hour free transit policy. However, if the airline said it’s not allowed, I’m afraid it won’t allow you to board the plane if you don’t have a PRC entry permit.

In case that you are eligible for the 72-hour free transit, you can tell the airline you intend to use this policy before the flight arrives, and then the airline will report it for you.

Thanks David!I finally decided to apply as I want to be sure I'm not denied the entry at the airport.

Best regards,
