backup choice for tickets

I want to buy to tickets for the train from Beijing to shanghai, one of the choices I need to make is:
"If your selected seat class or trains are not available, what is your backup choice? "

1. if I buy tickets, is it possible that the wont be available at the day of departure?
2. if I choose the "Any class available for the same train" option, and the seat available is first class, Will I need to add the difference between the ticket I bought and the ticket available?

When the tickets for seat are unavailable, you can buy a standing ticket, which costs the same as the seat ticket. You have to seat for the whole trip. Or you can choose other transport means, such as long-distance buses and plane.

1. There is high possibility that the train ticket is unavailable in China on your departure date, so it would be best to book in advance.
2. Hope I understand correctly. If you get a second class ticket and find the first class seats are available onboard, you need to pay extra to use the first class seat.
