Hello Yang! First please report the loss to local police. Then take necessary documents and go to the consulate to apply for a new passport. Before going there, you are suggested to make an online appointment, which can save your time. By the way, keep an eye on the website of the consulate. If your passport is picked by someone and it tranfers the passport to the consular office, the office will post a notice on its website.

What are the documents I need to apply a new passport? I would like to find out from the Chinese consulate websites whether they have found one but have no idea how to find it? Could you please help me out with the link or steps? thank you!

You need to submit the application form, two full-face bare-headed passport photos, a CD or DVD disc in which the E-photo version is stored, a photocopy of your lost passport (if any), a statement about the loss, and the original and photocopy of your Australian residence permit.

I suggest you contact the consulate by phone to find out whether someone has picked up your passport. The number is 0061-3-98043683.
