Transit permit enroute to Colombo Sri Lanka

Hi , I am a Sri Lankan student on a two year visa studying in Penrose Auckland. I need to travel home for vacation end June. I hold a Cathay Airline ticket to Sri Lanka and need a transit permit in Hongkong as there is a long delay in connecting flights. Please guide me how to obtain this....When I purchased the ticket there was no such requirement as I came via Hongkong. Arlene Auckland Student

Arlene, so you have to get out of HK airport, right? I heard that if Sri Lankan citizens take the flight of Cathay Airline and transit in HK, the transit permit is not requred under the condition that the passenger won't leave the airport. Anyway, if you have to get out of the airport for accommodation, you should apply for the transit permit in advance. You can apply for it at the embassy in NZ by submitting the following documents:
Application form (ID 1003A)
Your recent photograph (affixed on page 1 of the application form ID 1003A)
Photocopy of your passport
Photocopy of your financial standing proof, e.g. bank statements, savings accounts passbooks, tax receipts, etc.
Photocopy of flight itinerary
