Chinese tourist visa for US citizen in India

I am a US citizen, currently in India on a student visa. I would like to visit China as a tourist. Can I apply for the Chinese entry permit at the embassy or consulate in India, or do I have to apply in my home country?

Yes, you can apply for it at the CVASC branches in India. Aside from the regular application documents, you should submit the original and photocopy of your student certificate in India.
