About:FAQ of Chinese Visa Application
I am studying abroad in Malaysia and was going to visit shanghai for 5 days.
Do I need to visit the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia?

Hi, you don't need to visit the embassy. Instead, you should go to the CVASC branch in Kuching or Kuala Lumpur to apply for an L type entry permit.
