Hey, you need to buy a sim card according to your mobile phone specification. If your phone is WCDMA and GSM, then you can find an office of China Unicom (中国联通) to buy an sim card. If it just supports CDMA or CDMA2000, then you should visit China Telecom offices to buy the sim cards. Don't worry! There are many branches of these two telecom operators.

Hebbar, if your phone is GSM mode, I think you may buy a China Mobile sim card. In order to subscribe international call service, the phone owners are required to store at least 500 RMB. And this requirement might differ from place to place.
