Do I need transit Visa? Philippine passport holder transiting in Beijing to Canada

Hi..
We are a family of Filipino immigrants to Canada. We are holding a Philippine passport with a valid Canadian entry permit. Our flight is Manila - Beijing - Canada.

We will be in Beijing for 16 hours, waiting for our flight for Canada. Since we have a kid with us, we are planning to get a nearby hotel.

Do we need to get a transit type if we go out of the airport to go to a hotel? Do we need to get one if we just stay in the airport while waiting for our flight?
Thank You so much

You needn't apply one in advance. When you arrive and pass the immigration counter, you just tell the officer that you plan to exit the airport during your transit. Then they will stamp on your passport. With this stamp, you can exit the airport without a problem. It's for free.
