Applying for China entry permit while on holiday in Phuket

Hi, I am going to Shanghai 6th May to visit a friend and staying with him. Can I apply for a Chinese Visa in your new Consular Office in Songkhla via secure mail post from Phuket. I am in Phuket for 9 days. How quickly can I get it and the cost for New Zealand citizens. I have confirmed return flights to Shanghai from Kuala Lumpur. Since I will be staying with my friend in Shanghai I have not booked my hotel accommodation. Do I need any documentation from my friend in Shanghai other than his name, date of birth and address? Please advise asap as I am leaving New Zealand in a week's time for 1 day in Bangkok and 9 days in Phuket. Thank you.

Hey Vivien! A consular office has been set up in Phuket, so you can do your application there rather than mailing application documents to Songkhla. The application process usually takes four working days. The price of single-entry permit for citizens from a third country is 1100 THB. As you don’t have hotel reservations, you can ask your friend to write you an invitation letter in which his personal particulars, signature, and details of the planned visit are included.
